Consultant Psychiatrist

Shirley is a consultant psychiatrist with more than 11 years experience in mental health. She completed her medical training at the University of Auckland (NZ) in 1995 and has worked in Sydney, rural Australia and England before specialising in psychiatry.

She trained at Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. She has previously been a Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist with Sydney South West Area Health Service and at Tamworth Base Hospital.  She has also worked with refugees for Detention Health.

Shirley is trained as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and she sees children of all ages, as well as adults. She treats anxiety and mood disorders, autism and Asperger's Disorder, psychotic disorders and ADHD. She also has an interest in the psychological aspects of pregnancy, including post partum depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and chronic trauma. She can also perform family assessments.

Shirley takes an holistic approach to treatment, incorporating psychotherapy and medication, as needed. She can use family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, medium and long term psychodynamic psychotherapy and mindfulness related therapies. With more complex cases, Shirley works as part of a team, liaising with paediatricians, psychologists and schools. When managing psychotic illness, she works collaboratively with the local area mental health services.
